Tasted at the Queen's Hotel, Hornsey, N. London, during its mini-beerfestival in mid July. Gravity-dispensed straight from the cask. A seasonal Golden Ale available during July and Aug., and the name is I suppose a corruption of the name for the famous ship "Cutty Sark".
A: dark amber in colour, no beer head, static looking but not bad for a gravity-dispensed beer.
S: juicy citrus hops with a semi-tangerine edge, like Challenger hops, sitting on top of a semi-sweet malty backbone; simply-composed, with a twist of flowery hoppy under-note.
T: the semi-thick fore-taste of chewy, tangy and zesty hoppyness and a secondary layer of pale maltiness get underlined by a dryish aftertone of dried leafy-herbs; more chewy, tangy, slightly tannic kickback of hops sustain in the end, but overall quite clean on the palate.
M&D: due to the condition of the cask, the texture is slightly flat, but the tangy-bitter edge still provides a good body to highlight the goodies of this light-bodied Golden Ale/Bitter. Could've been better if served at its prime. Worth trying it again.
