a huge beer, a little sloppy in its enormity i think, which was true of the ther strong beer i had from these guys, but there is a nice depth of flavor here to me, and it comes off as a decent rough draft of a good idea, not quite evolved or refined enough yet to be excellent, but also so full of promise that its hard to be too critical. for me, the booziness is a little over the top, even for the style, its a lot, fusel and hot and present throughout. aside from that, there is a nice dark chocolate, tobacco, and roasted barley stew, charred wood and coffee notes, bitter and sweet at the same time, slightly starchy and smooth, velvety even, but the booze cuts this down a little bit and makes the beer seems a little forced to me, like its a few tweaks away from being all the way right, but this is a nice base from which to build. licorice or anise or something there with the char in the finish, i think this has some great flavors, but just isnt quite there yet. i hope to get to drink some more beers from these guys next time i am out that way! curious to see how they evolve and grow...
