This winter ale has a bright nose, with citrus, vanilla and ginger. A light, sweet mouthfeel with just a hint of molasses.

Clear dark red-brown color. Poured a medium height head that dropped down to a patchy skiff after 2 minutes. Too dark to see the carbonation level. Left a few thin lines of lacing.
Smells of yeast funk and some overripe plum or prune. Earthy. Swirling the glass kicked up a much stronger prune with a hint of barnyard.
Slightly bitter strong prune flavor. Earthy with light barnyard. Light coffee or chocolate. Some dark roasted malt flavor. Light sweet with just a bit of tart. The aftertaste is a stronger tart with prune flavor dominating and a long tail out into the dark malt.
Light tongue tingling. Light foam. Heavy body.
I'm glad I tried this, but this didn't really appeal to me. There was a nice balance of flavors, but I'm not a bit fan of prune flavor in this style. If you are partial to prunes then you should give this a try.
