A traditional German beer style that was just about extinct 30 years ago that has made a resurgence due to the revelation that what came before today’s craft beer was unique, delicious, and inspiring. Isn’t that the way it always goes – what was old becomes new again? This is Four Saints’ first kettle soured ale, and we’re damn proud of it. That’s the Way It Gose is a refreshing beer brewed with coriander and Himalayan Pink salt. The tart, dry finish combined with the hint of salt and citrus leaves your palate craving another sip. And That’s the Way it Gose.

On tap at Brixx into pint glass. Pours clear pale golden yellow color with a thin cap and spotty lacing, some streaming carbonatation. Aromas of big sour green apple, white grape, lacto funk. Taste of tart/sour green apple, white grape, lemon, wheat, light sea salt, herbal, grass, lacto funk. Medium tart/tangy finish. Medium plus carb and light body. Crisp clean refreshing finish. Balanced grainy malt and lactic acid in the mouthfeel. Minimal salinity or pucker factor. A very basic and not too acidic gose. Thoroughly enjoyed. Well made for the style.

A: Pours a relatively clear medium yellow in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation and faint pale golden yellow highlights. The beer has a finger tall fizzy foamy white head that quickly reduces to a large patch of thin film covering a little more than 75% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Light to moderate aromas of slightly sour wheat malts and grainy malts. That is followed by light to moderate amounts of briny salt, tart lemon citrus, and a hint of coriander.
T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of slightly sour wheat malts and light to moderate flavors of grainy malts with just a hint of sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of briny salt and tart lemon citrus. Finally there is a light flavor of coriander towards the finish. The lingering flavor is one of tartness from the wheat and the lemon citrus.
M: Light bodied with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp with light to moderate amounts of acidic prickliness.
O: A nice example of a gose, refreshing, and easy to drink. Enjoyable with a nice amount of tartness and enough salinity to balance it somewhat.
