A - Dark and opaque with a steady brown head.
S - Nose is dark, smoky burnt herbs and faint cocoa.
T - A little bit acid up front followed by a wallop of bitterness that quickly recedes. Some fruitiness, and roasted flavour.
M - A bit of astringency. Otherwise, fairly solid body.
D - OK, but nothing spectacular.

Tasted by a pint at 3 pounds(!!!) at an organic pub/restaurant, "The Crown", nr. the Victoria Park, East London. It's so expensive but there aren't many pubs (4 tops?) in London doing Pitfield's beers on draught/tap, and this pub does in total 5 of them (4 on draught and 1 on tap)+St. Peter's Organic Best Bitter on draught!! So a "pilgrimage" to this pub once in a lo...ng while is quite pleasant afterall. 4.0%abv. on draught.
A: this pint pours a dark brownish hue, without any sign of beer head and a rather static body...
S: lightly-roasted maltiness and very light chocolatey hint and a touch of oriental black sugar upfront, while in the background some refreshing dark fruit aroma plus a mild touch of caramel are there. Overall the nose is rather simple and subdued.
T: on the palate the subtlety continues--extremely light-bodied maltiness with a softly bittersweet, cold (filtered) coffeeish aftertaste, added with touches of licorice and a lingering smokiness; minimal bitterness left in the end, and finished rather clean.
M&D: unexciting on the mouthfeel I must say, and it's at times a bit watery and the balance of the body as a stout is somehow lost. Almost too clean and light-bodied for a stout. A so-so stout in my opinion--maybe I'm used to more flavoursome products, but Pitfield's Black Eagle is much more tasty and complex than its cousin over here...

It is an opaque black with a tan head. The aroma has some faint roasted malts character. The body is very smooth and creamy with some tastes of chocolate and coffee. Not a bad beer, but it does not distinguish itself as far as stouts go. It is a dime a dozen.
