Gravity listed as 1055-1060.
The bottle also specifies ingredients as:
Malted Barley,Roasted Barley,Hops,Yeast.
Also listed on the label:
"Brewed for Campaign for Real Ale", and "best before November 1987".
This 18 year old poured flat and dark.
Blackish with hints of ruby in the edges when held to the light.
Complex in the nose.
Rich roasted malt, dark roasted coffee beans, chocolate covered fruit. Vineous and musty. Dried figs in an old leather pocket. Shadows of cherries and smoke.
Thin to medium bodied and silky smooth on the pallet.
Being flat stirs thoughts of a cask version.
Roasted barley dominates, with dark chocolate and espresso right behind.
Dried fruits with hints of kahlua, dusty boards, and char round out each sip.
Finishes thinnish, more in the personality of a dark Mild than a Porter.
This vintage Brit held up incredibly well.
Aside from being flat with an expected cardboard note,
it was very enjoyable.
Needless to say, would have loved to have been there in "87 for a fresh one.
