Part of Pitfield's organic range. Coming in a 500ml brown bottle, with a mark of "BBE 0706 GYLE 138" on the label. Don't know what it means...
A: served in a goblet it pours a deeply dark mahogany hue with more brownish hints than red, with a nice foamy tan head dissipating a bit too fast... nice smooth carbonation.
S: slightly sour edge of roasted malts/barleys and slightly leather-note, backed by a mild hint of dark berries, mildly sweet note of vanilla plus dark chocolates; after swirling, a stronger earthy as well as wild-plant kind of hop aroma also reveals. Overall a bit understated, the nose is actually quite pleasant~~
T: a smooth flow of delicious chocolatey and roasted malts caresses the palate, bringing with it a very smooth, even chocolate+coffee-cream kind of texture without the sweet edge; lots of chewy roastiness and crushed-raw-grain's kind of dark malts to follow along with an unique flavour of calcium-pills (as happens to quite a few English stouts I've had so far~~), and a tinge of earthy hops, but remains quite mild and not so bitter as such. Good lingering aftertaste of malts, with a hint of coffee but throughout the drink the palate is moderate, never too much, while feeling solid on the tongue.
M&D: semi-thick on the palate as well as being very smooth in body, I think this beer reaches a kind of balance I cherish very much in any beer style. Don't know what influence the organic ingredients have made over this beer, but it's certainly not bad influence. Also had it once at an organic pub on cask, this beer proves its consistent quality and one of my favourite brews by Pitfield. Recommended--both cask and bottled versions.
