a little stronger than i am used to in the style, but a decent pint of beer here, basic and maybe a little thin in feel, certainly not going to change the world, but it tastes fresh, the yeast is right, and it drinks easy for its color and strength. a little bit of haze to this makes it looks pale for the style, kind of washed out, and the inch of wheat head settles out pretty quickly. aroma of english ale yeast, a nutty element in the malt, and a light cocoa character, nice and dry, earthy, unified. there is a light tang in the middle of the taste, not quite sharp or anything, but it seems like it breaks down some of the body, and it finishes with a slight chemical element, like the fermentation ran a little warm or something. the nutty aspect is nice, the bit of middle sweetness is useful, and the lightness is interesting. more carbonation would really help it along, its fine at first, but it dissipates out long before the beer is gone. overall this is alright, not amazing, maybe my least favorite of the three beers i had in here, but its good to see an english brown on an american beer menu, not many folks doing these anymore it doesnt seem like...
