The Island 1842 is an Imperial IPA designed for those who prefer a bold and powerful drink. Our goal with this beer was to coax out and showcase every nuance that our outsized malt and hop bill had to offer. This beer’s hop character is potent with additions in the first wort, constantly through the boil, at flameout and then generously during fermentation. In order to balance the strong hop profile, we built an appropriately robust malt backbone. The moment you pour Island 1842 into your snifter, expect a powerful nose of spicy, floral and zesty hops. The complexity of flavor will then continue to unfold with each sip and the flavor will linger on the palate.

L - Dark and coppery, not a usual look for an Imperial IPA
S - Tropical fruits, malt and biscuit
T - Star anise, malty, somewhat sweet, the bitterness doesn't linger
F - medium plus thickness, medium minus carbonation, slight burn throughout
O - Almost like a west coast IPA but far more malty than hoppy. Hop bitterness is muted by the malty sweetness.

The best beer in Hong Kong. Hoppy, fruity taste but nice, bitter and crisp.

L - unusually dark for an IPA, hazy, off white head
S - guava and other odd tropical fruits, honey, biscuity malt
T - more guava, anise, unusually malty, somewhat sweet, the bitterness doesn't linger
F - medium plus thickness, medium minus carbonation, slight burn throughout
O - reminds me of some of Singlecut's beers with southern hemisphere hops, though a bit maltier

A 330ml bottle with a best before date of 31st May 2017, poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass.
Appearance: It poured a hazy dark amber colour with slightly less than two finger off white head that had great retention and left nice sticky lacing.
Aroma: Strong caramel malts, citrusy grapefruit, pine and touches of floral elements.
Taste: Bitter and herbal with some grapefruit zest, caramel and toffee.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate to low carbonation.
Overall: Nice lingering bitterness with pretty good malt and hop balance.
