Blind-tasted, apart from having read the front lable.
Bottle has sediment, pre-rest and consider pouring carefully. FWIW I left 25ml in the bottle as the sediment lifts and I prefer not decanting such.
L- Black as they come, even held up right in front of a halogen bug. Pours with 3mm dark tan head, that for the ABV% holds up impressively well.
S- Initially I seem to get a liquor note (barrel aged?) then later charred coffee.
T- Definitely liquor, whisky? Deep roast notes, charring then a hint of spice arises. I think it has the 'narrow' heat impression on my palate of chilli (vs say pepper). Final guess: Chilli + whisky. The hops get rather masked behind the other pungent aspects.
F- It's quite rich but fortunately it's not outright sweet. It is definitely a beer I have to slow-sip, it's that intense. I started it quite chilled and I'm glad I did. As it warms it comes over as sweeter, and you can't rush this one.
O- Something quite different. I can imagine this from the US, so for it to be out of HK is interesting. It is without question full on and I think it would be a good candidate to share with a friend. Acid test.... would I drink it again? Yes, on the basis of sharing it with a friend and comparing thoughts.
p.s. c250ml down the glass I believe the accumulated spice has now been enough to make my nose 'quite sniffy', Yup, I have to go and blow it!
Bought as a gift to me in the UK from Beerforce in Holland Village, Singapore. 330ml BB:01-07-2025.
