On tap at Hay Merchant, in Houston.
A: Pours a dark ruby red color. A minimal, one finger white head forms and recedes in a minute. Not much lace.
S: Sweet caramel malts, and smoke. Almost peaty smoke with wood. Some stone fruits, but the odd smokiness and sweet malts are the show. Not bad, but odd and a little off putting.
T: Sweet caramel, wood, vanilla. Some smoke, I assume for the barrel. It does remind me a little of peat. Which isn't bad, but overall a little one sided.
M/D: A full body with moderate carbonation. Fairly smooth. A bit dirty, I assume from the barrel character. A bit more heat than the base and the Bishops Barrel. Still, not hard to sip on. Just not something I would come back to again and again.
I am not all that familiar with Tequila barrels, so take this with a grain of salt. A little to one sided with smoke/barrel, and sweetness. Not bad by any means, but just a bit off for me.
