Just finished my last one and I'm sad. I love Pumpkinator. Age it in bourbon barrels and it is heaven. I still loved Rumpkinator more.... but this is dang close to perfect.

12oz bottle poured into large snifter

Once I pop the top I can't deny that the aroma has me wanting to take this bottle to the face, but I resist the urge and pour it properly. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice dominate the nose and rest on the tongue after every sip. This dark and dangerous liquid has a huge ABV but drinks smooth. Not so much hot as it is "lukewarm" in the alcohol department. Overall a good brew.

Pours a pitch black color with a small carbonated head that quickly dissipates. No lacing to speak of. Aromas of bourbon, pumpkin, dark malts and maybe slight coffee. The taste is superb!! Dark malts, black licorice, slight coffee with a good pumpkin spice hit and a nice bourbon smooth finish. Medium to heavy bodied with very little carbonation. Alcohol burn once it has all gone down. Well done!!

12 oz bottle. Pours jet black, fizzy head disappears in seconds, no lace. Aroma is a bit boozy with some spices. Taste is boozy as well, with sweet roasted malts. The pumpkin flavor comes out as it warms. Cinnamon and nutmeg spice on the back end at the right level, not biting. Overall a big boozy spicy stout, lots of flavor there, nice job.

Pours an opaque dark brown almost black color with khaki colored head. Barrel, whiskey, oak, pumpkin pie spice on the nose; follows onto the palate. Full bodied. Finishes with more barrel character and some pumpkin notes.

Had Bourbonator at the SA 20th Anniversary party and so that taints this review a little, admittedly. Bourbonator was so close to perfection, but BB9 is not *quite* there. Still an incredible bourbon barrel aged stout though - the spices from pumpkinator are more subdued without disappearing altogether, whilethe bourbon is strong and pleasant, without being overpowering. Pumpkin shines through on the nose and spice throughout, with a finish of bourbon. Lovely.

First thoughts is pumkinator aged in bourbon barrels.

Cinnamon, nutmeg, spice, pumpkin, etc. chocolate and malts. Bourbon and booze. Oak and vanilla. Huge beer. The abv shows here. Good, but a ton of pumpkin.

Picked a few bottles up. I am a fan of pumpkin beers and stouts, seeing a barrel aged stout sitting on a shelf this time of year definitely got my attention. Smell was amazing. Yes it is pumpkin pie it is all there. If I wasn't smelling it out of my stout glass yeah I would be confused. Under the spices you can smell the wonderful bourbon notes with the typical vanilla, caramel, and oak. I picked up the spices that were prominent but not overpowering. This stout was very smooth and to me had a good thickness. The bourbon was there but again not overpowering. Oh was there nut in it? This stout was very balanced. I wish that this was not a one off. If I can find this again I will buy as many as I can afford haha.

For all Pumkinator (ST Arnolds) lovers this is AWESOME
This is an Imperial Pumpkin Stout ages in Bourbon Barrels.

and did I mention it is Awesome.

This past week I had a 2013 Pumkinator before having this and i was amazed on the change/upgrade/improvement. I am a fan of pumpkin beers, so I was not sure how could you make this better but........ this is how.

LOOKS... like an Imperial stout.. very dark and with a 1/2 inch tan head. fall and pumpkin and spices, there is an barrel/liquor scent in the air.
BODY... has enough (medium) carbonation. it taste like a classic pumkinator with an emphasis on spices and barrel aging which adds a nutty and alcoholic taste to it which I love. the pumpkin is balance with the spices. It is Not overly Sweet, which is something I liked. It is extremely balanced.
FEELS.... thick but balance.... everything you would expect of an Imperial Stout. good carbonation.
OVERALL.... must have....must have....must have... must have..... it is delicious.

Excellent pumpkin beer. The smell of cinnamon pumpkin is wonderful. Taste of pumpkin pie and bourbon is outstanding. Delicious beer but one is plenty.

One of the best "pumpkin beers" I've had, but definitely more pumpkin pie than pumpkin.

Appearance is typical of a BBA stout of this abv, with limited head and low to moderate carbonation. Smell is heavy on vanilla, raisin and custard, with hints of the pumpkin pie spice to come. The taste maintains some of the custard but largely gives way to really well done pie spices. Medium finish where the barrel booze finally shows up.

To be honest, it's hard for me to comment much on the base stout, as it definitely plays second fiddle to the adjuncts and ageing characteristics. Might not be for everyone for that reason, but it's a great substitute for dessert. I want pie now.

[Forced outlier notes pertaining to a bottle sampling.]

Heavy on the pie spices (nutmeg, allspice, clove, cinnamon) without committing to the pumpkin gourd which should be at its core. Unrefreshing, unnecessarily heavy, and medium-bodied with an unpleasant syrupy viscous feel on the palate. Lacks focus, as well as a harmony of texture and taste.

Boozy with none of the benefit of bourbon barrel aging. The barrel was wasted on this.

High C+

Poured into a snifter.

A: A rich dark brown with a tan one-finger head that lasted. Significant lacing.

S: Strong pumpkin spices and bourbon hit you head on. Very enticing.

T: Pumpkin rich, robust with lots of bourbon in the background. This one grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. Sip slow and let it warm for maximum punch.

M: Medium to heavy, chewy with medium carbonation.

O: Glad I got to try this monster of a brew. I love Pumpkinator and adding the barrel aging only amps up the flavor factor. Heavenly.

Deep dark brown
Smells of bourbon and pumpkin spice
Medium-medium/ heavy on the palate.
Tastes of bourbon and pumpkin spice. I would love to compare this to other pumpkin stout like Warlock and Pumpkjn Smash.
Overall, really, really good! This should be a regular release AND should be released in the October or November.

Huge spice note in the front. Clove in particular, very reminiscent of pumpkinator, good thing since it's the base. I personally got no barrel. Slight tannin aftertaste, no typical bourbon characteristics of toasted sugars or vanilla. Spices calmed as it warmed, but overall it remained thin, but hid the alcohol very well. pumpkinator has a cult like following, so anticipate this will be a success as it stays true to the base. I've loved vintages of pumkinator, but didn't feel the barrel added enough to this, and this year's was very spice heavy.

Updated review on 1/26/108. I just recently opened a bottle from 3/27/2015. So basically right at 3 years old.

I can tell the carbonation has held well, as a dense two finger head forms and recedes after a minute. Big chocolate, pumpkin pie, spice, vanilla, and wood all over the place. Ridiculously smooth, and something that is amazingly warming and enjoyable to drink. This has aged beautifully as far as I am concerned.

Original Review___________________________________
A: Pours a near opaque black. Except some reddish/brown around the edges, basically looking into a reflection. A noisy and bubbly tan head quickly forms, but recedes in a second to nothing. No lace either. Not entirely unexpected for the style and alcohol though.
S: Christmas spices. Cinnamon, clove, spice, brown sugar. Oak tannins, vanilla, some chocolate. Lots going on, which is not bad, just busy and to much like a spice rack being thrown in.
T: Like the nose. Lots of spices up front. Cinnamon, allspice, brown sugar. Some oak/wood notes, with chocolate and vanilla. Like the nose really busy.
M/D: Low carbonation, and a relatively thin body. Though viscous at the same time, if that makes sense. While there is plenty of alcohol, it is pretty easy to sip on.

This is OK. I enjoyed the rum barrel version much more, and that seemed much more rounded that this. Not as outright awesome and craveable as Bishops Barrel 8 either. Saint Arnold succeeded in what they wanted to create, just not one of my personal favorites of the series.

A: thin, quickly dissipating head.
S: bourbon, vanilla, brown sugar. mainly bourbon.
T: pumpkin more prominent than pumpkinator for me. nutmeg, vanilla, and lots of bourbon. fairly boozy, with good burn on the way down. lots and lots of bourbon character.
F: medium bodied. fuller than it looks in the glass. not chewy by any means, but there is plenty there.

quite good. a little hotter than I would prefer right now, but I would expect it to mellow some.
