Guten Tag is a traditional Bavarian-style lager with a crisp and clean flavor. The malt provides a nice toasty and bready complexity through the use of decoction, while the hops are restrained to allow a soft and elegant finish.

Appearance: Clear dark amber, fluffy white head with moderate retention.
Aroma: Malty upfront with lots of toasty notes. Herbal/spicy hops.
Flavor: Toasted bread crust, spicy/herbal hops. Low to moderate bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied. Semi-dry. Medium length finish.
Overall: Interesting that St. Arnolds basically has two different Marzen style beers in Oct. Their Octoberfest and this Guten Tag. This one is a little more robust and toasty that Oktoberfest. It too drinks "lighter" than many American Marzens in terms of not as sweet as it appears, with emphasis on toastiness. Visually, a nice looking beer except the head retention is quite short compared to its German counter parts. Moderate to low bitterness to provide some balance. I'll give this one the edge for robustness & complexity.

Notes from 5/2/2020.
Poured from a 12oz can into a Rastal nucleated Teku glass.
The body is amber and clear with 2 fingers of off-white head. Retention is normal leaving a thin cap.
The intensity of the aroma is medium-low. There are notes of caramel, grass, maybe a hint of nuts, and maybe Noble hops.
The intensity of taste is slightly above medium. The flavors are rich caramel, milk chocolate, sweet malt, and a light hop finish. The ride from caramel to milk chocolate is very tasty.
The feel is somewhat thick, slightly creamy, and has a medium astringency level. The finish is quite dry compared to the sweetness of the malt flavors.
Overall, it's a well made local beer. I really like the flavor. I prefer to support local breweries. So, I'm likely to buy this again.

Pours a clear golden amber color with a finger width foamy head. Head retention is very good as is lacing. Grainy, bready, earthy, lager aroma. Very grainy, bready taste with some sweetness with mild caramel. Light bodied with moderate carbonation.

Growler filled 12-30-19, opened 12-31-19.
Clean and clear amber/copper lager with plenty of active carbonation racing up to the 2 finger slightly off-white head. Very good retention. Fresh lacing remains.
Mineral, bready, slight sulfur...grain, earth, nutty - nice malty and clean lager aroma.
Malty, faint caramel flavor, light toast and bread dough.
Medium body, medium carbonation. Malty and slightly sweet finish.
Good. Enjoyed this lager and will drink it again.
