Canned 2021/01/12
Pours a med frothy tan head with great retention, fair soapy lacing, very dark basically black beer
Nose brings plenty of lactose, chocolate milk, little semi sweet chocolate, fudgey chocolate nougat, touch of coffee
Taste brings a bit of roast, but mostly chocolate and lactose, some earthy roasty coffee that seems to sticks out like a thorn, bitter roast and coffee, dark chocolate, little bitterness
Mouth is med bod, creamy, med carb
Overall eh, the milk chocolate is ok but coffee does not mesh well and clashes

A- The tall can pours a minimally black in the center with dark brown around the edges into a pint glass. A nutty tan head rises atop the beer to a finger high with a thick frothy texture. Thin sheets and long webs of lacing.
S- The aroma is that of a brown-black stout, not a super roast heavy example of the style by any means shooting for more balance in the grain contribution. Decadent milk chocolate and medium-dark roast coffee married well with hints of toasted nuts, caramel, cocoa nibs, roast barley and licorice. A touch of earthy hops.
T- As in the aroma the stout displays balance rather than going for an overly dessert or super dry and roasty flavor profile. A wide spectrum of the toasted to roasted flavors with dark chocolate, milk chocolate and medium roast coffee coming on strong. Toasted nuts, roast barley, char and cocoa powder are big with hints of earthy hops, licorice, vanilla sweets and a touch of dark fruit.
MF- Medium bodied where it is rich enough to support the big flavor profile but light enough that you can easily finish a tallboy and its not a meal. A moderate level of carbonation and a slightly bitter roast finish.
A stout that boasts rich and powerful flavors while still maintaining a semblance of balance of everything: sweets, coffee, cocoa and roast malts are all important and contribute heavily. Great for a full pint or alongside a chocolate dessert.

Poured at the brewery. It is a different beer than their regular milk stout. I asked.
Pours perfect, as does pretty much every dark beer from Tributary. Nearly opaque ruby with a fluffy, retentive brown head.
Smells like chocolate and pleasantly rough barley. Nicely complex, though not as well balanced as their otherewordly porter.
Tastes like it smells: milk chocolate up front, then come coffee and charred barley in the middle, finishing with some pleasant malt roughness and some sweet, lingering lactose.
