Braggot is a Scottish Ale made with honey that ferments off, but results in toffee and jam aromatics. Malt forward and well-balanced.

Enjoying from a 0.5l bottle bought at Tributary a few months ago.... Quaffing from a Willi Becher.

Pours a rich, clear, deep copper color, with light carbo. Head is a thin, fine, light-tan layer of suds, with sparse lacing. Aroma is of slightly sweet malts with a coating of honey. Also has a touch of dark fruit. Body is medium, with a fairly smooth feel to match.

Tasting caramel and toffee malts, with the honey right up front. Has medium sweetness but gets dry towards the finish. Has a bit of subtle, earthy hopping in the end notes. Solid! Prosit!!

On tap at Tributary Brewing in Kittery, ME.

This one pours a copper red color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.

This smells like berry, burnt sugar, honey, and clove-ish bitterness.

I don’t have many braggots, but this seems to be one of the better ones, I’d assume. There’s honey, but not cloying or sweet honey, almost a burnt honey or burnt sugar kind of taste. There’s some herbal spice, a touch of dark fruit and berry, and dark bread.

This is medium bodied, kind of creamy, with a great drinkability.

I love that Tributary did this style, and as far as I can tell, they nailed it.

From a 500 ml. bottle acquired at the brewery on April 30, 2022. Sampled May 1, 2022.

Handsome looking reddish-medium amber pour under a small and fading tan head.

Lovely sweet roasted malt and honey aroma with a slight cherry sensation, low hop profile, and maybe just a touch of peat moss.

Smooth medium mouthfeel.

Sweet malt forward and honey taste with a mild earthy or mossy finish. Extremely good considering honey ales are low on my favorites list.

This is a medium copper brew, very crisp and a minor laced white ring head.

Smells like a bag of malt dressed with a light salt shaker of hop dust. Honey and booze sweetness come on the nose.

The taste however completely masks all semblance of 8+% and *without being overly sweet. I was surprised at how balanced it is. Not a sugar bomb at all. Fruity even kinda like a lychee or sweet potato.

Feels good nd carbed but not fizzy per se. Masks heat and finishes unexpectedly dry in a good way.

Gonna give a big yes to this. Was expecting a meady messy sweet one note mopp, but got a surprisingly balanced and complex scottish style concoction. Yum.
