What a sight to behold! It's time to let the cat out of the bag, as what you see before you is what we have dubbed as Mott the Lesserer. Yes, you see that right, and this might just be the Mottiest of our imperial stouts yet. When the brewers were running sensory on this past Fall’s MtL they were blown away by the madeira barrel that possessed a profound Concord grape aroma, unlike that which they were exposed to in the past. We believe there are avenues less ventured to show off the beautiful characteristics wood can imbue into barrel aged beers that are often overlooked, and the opportunity to emphasize the vinous notes couldn't be ignored. With that said, after pushing the wood-aged portion into the base we decided to refrain from rinsing the barrels out and calling it a day. Instead, we gave the blended stout the weekend to meld, then refilled the madeira barrel with the amalgam, and then gave it an additional three months of time to mellow out and take in more character from said barrel. The experiment was a smashing success, and our collective patience yielded tremendous results. This new rendition of Mott has a heightened aromatic of the fruit we were spellbound by and is kept in check with delightful nuances of vanilla and oak. As we alluded to a few weeks ago, we’ll be releasing MtL’er on Saturday February 15th, alongside another special hefty brew.
