Aged in Mott the Lesser barrels, poured from a bottle purchased at the brewery.
Dense beige head which leaves strands of lace as it subsides. The liquid is dark brown with light passing easily through the edge of the glass (with ruby red hues).
Initial smell is of iron and sweet chocolate. Subsequently, I pickup dark sweet cherry, flowery hop, and powdered cocoa. Attractive and rich.
Semisweet chocolate begins the flavor profile. This is followed by partially sweet and lightly sour cherry/blackberry. The swallow draws out some warming alcohol, a subtle peppery hop contrast, and a coating faint latte (coffee/cream) on the tongue and roof of the mouth. The body might be slightly thin for a Baltic Porter, but is certainly rich for the bottle's label of a dark lager. Flavor wise, it fits the Baltic Porter moniker well. Simply put this is a very fine beer overall and a deservedly world-class designation on BA.
