Well, we've done it. We got really weird and created something really cool.
In the past few years we've been messing around with creating esoteric bock beers that allow us to explore the grandiosity of malted products that are outside the Reinheitsgebot (German beer purity law of 1516). You may remember our Dunkelroggendoppelbock Cultivator, or Dunkeldinkeldoppelbock Dinkelator, but now we are excited to introduce you to our newest addition to our Bock pantheon - Kolibrator!
This helleshaferbock (a pale oat bock that is) was devised and executed with some of our very favorite industry peeps/closest friends from @zerogravitybeer and @blueoxmalthouse . What we brewed in this collaboration pushes the envelope of maltiness we had yet to come across in all our years.
Pouring deep gold with an appropriate pillow of dense foam on its crown, this moderately strong lager was brewed with 40% malted oat products from the crew at Blue Ox out of Lisbon Falls. Fresh brioche titillates the senses with its first wafting aromas, and then oatmeal cookies and sweet cereal grains round out the overall impression. Nuances of honey, clove and cinnamon can be found as your palate acclimates to the barrage of flavors. And don't even get us started on the body of this beast!
Prost!

The minor head dies off completely and leaves no lace whatsoever. The liquid is deeper, dirty gold and clear. The bottle has some yeast sediment remaining.
Initial smell brings forward creamed corn. There's a minor malt aroma, but the corn wins out.
Decent, richer body with a finer level of carbonation. The corn, while present, is diminished on the tongue. There's a cream ale flavoring overall. It's a bit sweet with very little hop presence. Shorter aftertaste with a touch of alcohol warmth.

Picked up a couple of bottles of this at Trib during a visit last week, at $10.99 each. Diving in while watching some NFL action on a blustery November Sunday....
Poured most of the 0.5l bottle into a sniftah.... Pours a clear, rich, vibrant golden color. Has slow, sparse carbo bubbling topside where a thin, wispy layer of white foam sits. Lacing is rather light on the glass. Aroma has some nice bready malt plus some green fruit notes. Body is a decent medium, with a bit of light prickle hitting the tongue.
Flavor brings forth more bready, semi-sweet malt action. That's followed up by some pear and green apple, mixing in with a suggestion of honey. Finish has a smidge of florality to add to the mix. Another solid Tributary brew.... Prost!!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
