First launched in January 2004, this beer is one of Grand Union's "One Hop Series", of which each beer is made with Marris Otter pale malts and features a single variety of hop from around the world. I tasted this one by half-pint at the Cross Keys, a spacious JDW pub in City area, London. And it came just fresh and nice~~
A: golden colour with orangey hues; a thick, fluffy white beer head slowly settles and leaves pretty tight lacing, gentle carbonation.
S: zesty fruity hoppyness dominates the nose but quite complex as well: orange-blossom, grapefruit, dried apricot and a special aroma of "Anona spuamosa"-fruit which is widely available in SE Asia, and a short-lived aroma of elderflower; a much more restrained sulphury and banana-skin-ish note stays in the back, with just a light malty entry.
T: grapefruity hoppyness all along~~ turning dryish zesty, as a floral bitterness overwhelms the whole palate. Tangy fruit and lingering bitterness in the extremely long finish...
M&D: lively mouthfeel with extremely solid support of tiny fizz, while the body feels pretty firm on the palate; overall, this is an tremendously thirst-quenching bitter with a nice input of hops. A tasty golden ales with a relatively profound depth at its alc. strength. Pretty solid, esp. when it's served young and fresh.
