Gifted to me at Christmas, and even though milk stouts are not my favorite I liked it enough to go buy another just to confirm first impressions and get fodder for this review. Pours black with just a hint of mahogany red when viewed with the right backlighting. Nice head that dissipates in a few minutes leaving a thin film covering about 85% of the beer surface. Yes, I get the marshmallow on nose and taste, accompanies by some nice roasted malt. I like the mouthfeel...not sure if it is the lactose or what, but it is on the heavier viscosity side of a lot of the milk stouts I have had. Overall one of the better milk stouts I have had....but then again I am a fan of "flavored" stouts and although subtle, this marshmallow offering hits the mark.

Dark brown with 3 fingers of fluffy beige head.

Smells of cake batter, cocoa, sweet and root beer like.

The taste follows the nose.

Medium body with moderate, fluffy carbonation.

I got this in Escondido, CA, and am drinking it in Redding, Dec 1st, 2020.

Dark, rich milk stout. Has the expected mouth feel and a little sweet punch on the tongue. Chocolatey/Coffee overtones with a nice roasted marshmallow finish. Just a delicious stout - I ordered a second for dessert after a huge Italian dinner! Both draft pours. Only thing keeping this from a 4.75+ is not a nitro - that would put it over the top for me. Excellent stout. Will get again for sure.

Tasted from a 12 oz can.

L - Motor oil dark color and opaque. Head is initially fluffy and full, then is a thin sheet with active lacing made of minuscule tan bubbles. A great looking stout.

S - Unique aromas of s'mores--Graham cracker-like malt with lots of chocolate and that toasted marshmallow aroma as expected from the name.

T - Strong malt flavors with toasted bread, graham crackers, coffee and chocolate. In the middle there is a bit of vague, earthy hops. The sweet flavor of marshmallow stretches across it all, which becomes prominent in the finish.

F - Heavy body with a mouth-coating sensation. Moderate carbonation feels creamy with the thick body. Low hops bitterness. Little to no alcohol presence, despite the ABV. The mouthfeel overall supports the sweet, dessert-like nature of this beer.

O - This is a thick, sweet dessert beer. It has great aromas and flavors exactly as you'd expect from the name and I think the brewers nailed exactly what they were going for.

August 2nd, 2015 - As the name suggests, this beer smells just like a s'more on the nose. And tasty s'mores, too. The flavor is also more than reminiscent of scores, scored with Hershey's and marshmallows and graham crackers. And it even tastes toasted too (for what is more tragic than a raw s'mores sandwich.) And it still tastes like a beer, with a roasted barley malt note undergirding the whole snack like a sturdy branch. A little meatier quality on the palate would improve the beer, but this is more than drinkable for something sporting a "gimmick" flavor.

When I hear the words “Garage Brewing,” I don’t really think much. I mean, generic name and everything, but moreso, in the beer world, I’ve never heard someone talk about this brewery being great, or even simply good. I mean, price isn’t everything, but when Bomb! is going for $10+ a bottle, while this can was around $2.50, you kind of think that it obviously can’t be that good. But what do you know? Raul cracked the can, and he sniffed it, and like his last Tinder date, it wasn’t repulsive! Yeah, this dog could hunt! So yeah, it looked pretty straight up (like Tinder bae); and again, it smelled fine (like Tinder bae); and what do you know, when I went in for a taste, it tasted pretty good too! (like, well, you get the picture). I mean, this thing is a pretty darn good Sweet Stout with marshmallow essence.

So, like, my experience with Garage Marshmallow Stout was well and good (and I’d recommend that others take a twirl), but would Raul do it again? Prob not.

Peace!

The bartender hands it to me from the tap. It's dark, of course, but the head looks thin and one twirl convinces me that it will be thinner than I'd hoped.

It definitely smells like marshmallows!

The taste is similar to the smell of the marshmallows and nutty, but with a hint of burnt orange peel and a quarter shot of vodka thrown in for imagination, so not too strong..

The feel is creamy. Leaves your mouth a little slimy. The alcohol gives a bit of a bite to the back of the tongue.

Recommend to stout lovers but wouldn't go all in until you've tried it. That's what it's all about, though, right? I'd try it again..

Pours so dark brown that it looks black color with a 1-2 finger that faded slowly and left minimal spotty lacing. Nose is a combo of charred wood, dark chocolate, campfire roasted marshmallow, minerals, toasted grains, faint piney notes, vanilla extract, sweet cream and metallic notes. Taste has more metallic and milky aspects, but basically has all the same flavors as the aroma: charred wood, dark chocolate, campfire roasted marshmallow, minerals, toasted grains, faint piney notes, vanilla extract, sweet cream and then the additions of chocolate milk, cocoa nibs and cream soda. It's very creamy feeling and quite smooth, easy drinking.

Pours black with a frothy three fingers of head. Head pours caramel out of the can, but turns to a light khaki. It foams up quickly netting three plus fingers of head after a modest pour. Retention is fair to poor. Aroma is toasted marshmallow, burnt sugar, maple, and roasted and toasted malts. There is a light dose of lactose as well. Flavor profile is toasted marshmallow through and through, but not in a disgustingly sugary way. It also hits notes of burnt sugar and caramel. Roasted and toasted malts give it a dark depth, without imparting bitterness. Mouth feel is smooth and creamy with a medium-thick consistency. Overall, a very flavorful dessert beer that isn't absolutely loaded down with sugar notes.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 12oz can.
