Appearance: Pours with a massive, coarse tan head, which fades fairly quickly. This tops a large and clear, toned copper body. Fat bubbles cling to the glass wall. Thin streams of fine bubbles drift lazily to the surface.

Aroma: The taste begins with strong notes of mild roasted coffee. Soon after, toasted nuts, raisins and caramel present, all riding atop a wave of strong floral hops. Later in the taste, there is a presence of wood and vanilla. The hops are prominent, and in a less complex beer might seem heavy-handed, but here they offer a gracious balance against the varied palette of flavors on offer. The finish is a bit dry, but gracious, with a late wave of vanilla.

Taste: Opens with strong toasted malt notes, as the taste progresses, dark caramel notes appear. Finishes dry, with a lingering toasted malt and pronounced nutty note and a late spike of herbal hops.

Mouth feel: Soft and full, with soft carbonation, quite pleasing.

Drinkability/notes: Offers surprising complexity and depth, considering the relatively low ABV of 6.5%, it is a very nice example for the coming cooler days and nights of autumn.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce aluminum can, served in South American-style Pilsener glass.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

a neat recipe here, a little sweeter overall than it needs to be, but a hearty coffee brown ale served on nitro with a little pecan character to it, not overdone, and rightly drinkable. its cool to have the coffee as the most roasty element, like in stout or porter its dark nuance can be lost a little to the roasted barley, but not here, just a medium cocoa and crystal malt complexion lets the coffee do most of the bittering, earthy with a trace smoke element, pleasant in aroma and flavor, fresh, and i think nicely accentuated by the nitro pour, the smoothness of the mouthfeel matches the flavors really well. lighter in color than expected but with plenty of body, some real caramel sweetness is evident, and a light vanilla thing, giving what i can get of the pecans and almost candied character, nice balance to the coffee, but this would be better overall if it were a little drier. i think its pecan coffee, not also with pecans added to the beer, its subtle enough that i think thats how it has to be done. delicious overall, maybe a touch desserty, but this is unique and delicious beer. i need to find a few more from these guys while i am in texas this week!

 

Poured from can to snifter glass. Look is dark brown with quarter inch head. Smell is some malts. Taste is where the coffee and espresso really comes through, great taste. Feel is light and carbonated. Overall an excellent brown ale.

L: pours clear amber-copper, darker reddish copper once it's in the glass but still very clear, topped by 1/3-inch tall head of beige foam; no major sticking or lacing, keeps a full collar of beige foam

S: super sweet and super floral at first -- might even be a bit hoppy, but the noteworthy thing is how strong the aroma is, incredibly aromatic; as it warms, the darker-malt notes range from raisin and raisin bread to molasses, and there remains a sharp floral note that smells just like the big hope note in fresh American West Coast-style Russian imperial stouts; caramel and vanilla as it warms more

T: milk chocolate, chocolate malt, vanilla ... much sweeter and "softer" than the nose, the notes aren't quite as dark; so sweet you figure the brewer had to add sugar or lactose ... it has that sugary pop milk stouts have; as it warms, the coffee starts showing up, very sweet coffee and you can taste a little pecan

F: relatively lightweight but crispy and full

O: I waited way too long to try this one ... what a treat! It's possibly a bit sweet for some, but there's enough balancing flavors from the hops and earthier notes from the dark malt that the sweetness is not too much; it's as tasty as any coffee beer I've tried and at a much more manageable ABV than most; I'll be keeping this one in the fridge often

Very good. Smooth but with excellent character and body.

I had this when I went to see the Han Solo movie with my son on Memorial Day. Going to a theater with a bar and a restaurant was a new experience for me and enjoyed it.

The beer was good! It was served in a plastic shaker pint, but it looked fine. It smelled nice and malty, and the taste was of milk chocolate and toasted malt. Movie was good too!
