Appearance: A rough pour produces a small, coarse tan head, atop a chestnut body, which is all but opaque before light.. The head begins to fade rather quickly, soon collapsing to scattered archipelagoes of foam on the surface. Belgian-like lacing coats the glass walls.

Aroma: The aroma is dramatically rich, with strong notes of molasses, dark caramel, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg. Roasted pumpkin and toasted malt are notable as well. Sweet alcohol presents, unsurprising in light of the relatively high ABV of 8.49%.

Taste: Begins with notes of roasted pumpkin and toasted malt; soon after, there is cold coffee, molasses and brown sugar, though these last two are less prominent than the aroma would suggest. Next is an array of pumpkin pie spices, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg, Considering the high ABV, the alcohol is rather subtle, being unnoted in the taste, and is perceived only by a mild warming sensation. Toward the finish, there is a hint of grapefruit rind, which serves to offer some balance against the sweet and spicy flavors. Finishes with some char, citric hops, and lingering pumpkin pie spices.

Mouth feel: Smooth and very full, soft, with the slightest hint of carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: An excellent choice for a cool autumn evening, to be sipped and savored, like a fine whiskey.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce aluminum can, served in a Duvel chalice.

Poured from a can into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a deep brown color with a small tan colored head of foam. The head fades very fast leaving a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew is rich and delicious. It is very heavy of a roasted and toasted dark malt smell with lots of roasted pumpkin mixed within. At the same time the pumpkin pie spice is huge with lots of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. There is furthermore a good sum of sweetness with aromas of caramel, molasses, and brown sugar, giving a very nice and inviting roasted pumpkin pie like aroma.

Taste – The taste begins with a moderately roasted malt flavor with hints of spice and a decent showing of a pumpkin puree taste. Upfront there is also a decent showing of molasses and brown sugar, with these flavors lasting throughout the taste. While the spice is lighter upfront, the cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg all grow stronger as the taste advances. At the same time the pumpkin gains a bit more roastiness and is joined by a touch of char. A touch of earthiness comes toward the end, and with a rather sizable overall increase in the nutmeg and cinnamon, as well as some hints of a boozy alcohol, one is left with a sweet and roasted pumpkin pie taste to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium to slightly thicker in creaminess and chewiness with a carbonation level that is rather low. For the flavors and style the feel is rather well done and makes for a nice slow sipper.

Overall – A rather decent roasted and dark pumpkin brew. Definitely a fun one to try if you get the chance.
