We spared no expense in the creation of this collaboration with the mad scientists at Aslin Beer Company! A new species of lactose stout base underwent advanced bourbon barrel-aging with the addition of Madagascar vanilla beans. We then blended it with the DNA of fresh pistachios and, bingo: a 14.56% ABV Pistachio Ice Cream Stout!

L: Pours a thick oily black with a small tan head and no lacing on the glass. This looks like a big stout.

S: Huge dose of sweet milk chocolate, followed by a strong hint of vanilla, a note of Bourbon sweetness and then a light note of pistachio and ice cream.

T: Sticky sweetness, mixes with a well rounded note of Bourbon, sweet vanilla, a huge dose of milk chocolate and a light pistachio in the background. This beer is super sweet and screams dessert beer.

F: Super thick mouthfeel and large body.

O: This is a monster of chocolate, booze and vanilla, and a very enjoyable stout.

b2, drank 7/2023, ok, not the greatest, could have highlighted the pistachio much more to be better, too charry for a lactose and vanilla influenced beer, still good

2022 vintage. Pours near-black with minimal head. The nose is chocolate, vanilla, cherry, bourbon, pistachio, and almond extract. The pistachio and almond extract notes get stronger as the beer warms. The taste follows. Dark chocolate, vanilla, cherry, and pistachio/almond. The pistachio is more subtle on the taste. Low booze and medium sweetness. Mild salinity and savoriness. Medium+ mouthfeel that opens a touch syrupy. Overall, tasty. It's a bit sweet, and the pistachio is somewhat lacking on the flavor, but it's a nice dessert sipper.

Pitch black, oily appearance with a creamy brown head. Fairly good retention for its abv, with streaky brown lacing.
Smells very bourbon forward, strong, and sweet.
The taste isn't nearly very bourbon forward as the aroma might suggest; it's milk chocolate, vanilla bean ice cream, fudge, butterscotch, bourbon, sweetened espresso, and then subtle but nutty and sweet pistachio. Some bourbon warmth, mostly just super sweet, vanilla ice cream and espresso, fudgy finish.
Thick mouthfeel, moderately carbonated, not super thick and chewy, but oily, slick, and residual.
Phenomenal BBA sweet stout. Insanely drinkable despite its strength and sweetness.

Opaque matte black body with a finger of light brown foam. Smells like a pistachio bourbon root beer. Taste captures ice cream briefly, bourbon, molasses and nut before, vanilla sugar big and butter pecan hint after. Warm and boozy with smooth sweetness on the finish, thick and chewy.

2022 vintage poured from a 500mL bottle into a SP BBT21 light bulb snifter. pours black with a quickly fading mocha brown foam head. big bourbon and oak on the nose as well as vanilla and chocolate. the pistachios somehow add a vanilla ice cream component to the aromas that doesn’t quite translate to the taste. i get harsh bourbon barrel and an off nutty flavor when a little cooler. as it warms and opens up it gets less extreme and more balanced. the pistachio and oak make for a better combination when warmer. still plenty of bourbon, vanilla and chocolate. fully, thick mouthfeel with a slick finish. it’s still has an off finish in the flavor but the mouthfeel is exquisite. overall, interesting concept and highly enjoyable bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout. perhaps a little more time and this would be perfect for me - time for the barrel to mellow out a touch and the pistachios to go away just a little bit.

This is a solid Imperial Stout. The barrel is present on the nose, but the pistachio vyes for all of the attention. The roasty malt backbone isn't strong to stand up to the onslaught of sweetness, so this brew is definitely a sharer and a sipper. Thick, syrupy, full bodied on the palate. Silky smooth, albeit on the heavy side. Great for dessert after a savory meal.

Every time I pull a 16.9 oz. bottle out of the fridge my wife says “you’re going to drink a bomber alone on a weeknight?” They need to make the numbers bigger.

Dark black with a tight mocha cap that lingers like a bad case of swamp ass. The nose is full on nuts + vanilla with a light, earthy bourbon.

Cryopreservation doesn’t touch me right. The nuts run rampant; I’ve always believed there were two many nuts in the world. Ghost of vanilla, that odd earthy bourbon, with just a hint of cherry. Thick ass hell. A sample would have sufficed.

I am on the wrong side of history but this ain’t what I seek. Too nuts-to-butts, & the barrel is surpassingly light. Limping past mediocre.

pours a frothy, grainy, bubbly head which reduces to a thin ring and soapy islands. Nose is chocolate, vanilla, roasted grain, oak, and some nuttiness. Taste follows suit with chocolate sauce up front and some subtle, very authentic pistachio notes, finishing heavy barrel vanilla and toasted oak. Feel is very thick and full, nearly chewy. Overall, excellent. 4.25/5.

It’s a weird world nowadays, you know? Like, back in the day, you’d roll into the local joint for a few dips and there were maybe 10 flavors, right? (And butterscotch was probably the only “wild” one). But today, when you wanna fill yourself with some frozen goodness, there are at least 31 flavors you can dome. Yeah, today Grandpa still goes for chocolate, but you can go HAM and get Baseball Blast (which has more flavors in it than the options at the Bunny Ranch). So, yeah… These new-age Pastry Stouts, I don’t know, man. I don’t know…

Like the current summer heat, it’s warming…
