Gem Condition is the Bourbon Barrel Aged apex of our mint chocolate chip ice cream-inspired sweet stout, Mint Condition. Brewed with lactose for a dense, creamy texture, aged for over a year in a blend of top-shelf bourbon barrels, and finished with mint and Ecuadorian cacao nibs, this 14.27% ABV Imperial Stout is -- as any collectible grading ruberic will confirm -- virtually perfect.

Dark pour with minimal head and carbonation. The smell and taste are chocolate followed by mint. An excellent stout that avoids the cloying sweetness of many pastry stouts.

As a kid who grew up going to Thrifty's for ice cream with grandma and getting mint chip almost every time, this is a walk down memory lane, and what great memories they are and how amazing a beer that it hits all those notes almost perfectly. I'm not usually one for nostalgia, but this one's got me feeling the feels.

Very well made mint stout. You have to enjoy mint to like it though. I've had some mint stouts that are way too toothpaste-minty. This isnt that. Great mint chocolate character with some barrel presence to balance it out

Glossy obsidian black with a short dark tan head dying quickly to a uneven, sparsely present ring.
This smells astonishingly of Andes candies pouring out of the bottle--not just that zesty mint, but the sweet dark chocolate, with a mild accent of whiskey pepper developing as it warms.
Taste is more mature and aggressive than aroma, with the barrel adding whiskey spice up front, and a little toasty char in the exhale. However, the middle still has the Andes expression, but does transition more to mint chocolate chip ice cream when a bit more milkiness comes forward in time.
The silky smooth body is roundly medium, becoming a little more dense over time, with a fine cutting fizz that leads into a semi-sticky yet semi-dry finish.

2020 Release
Appearance: Very dark brown bordering on black with a modest sized dark beige head which gradually faded fairly quickly to a nice ring. Another good looking Imperial Stout from Bottle Logic.
Smell: Moderate Bourbon aromas, mild mint aromas, mild brown sugar aromas, and modest roasted malts/coffee aromas. A pretty good nose on this one.
Taste: The palate features moderate bourbon and mint notes, mild chocolate notes, and mild roasted malt notes. The mint that I feared might be too obtrusive worked well in the beer as it wasn't overdone. The beer starts off fairly sweet with the mint and bourbon notes but dries out some in the finish. The beer has a mild alcohol presence for the listed 14.27% ABV.
Mouth-feel: On the heavier side of medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation that leads to a satisfying mouthfeel in this beer.
Overall: This beer is my version of adult mint chocolate chip ice cream. As the beer warms the mint comes more to the forefront but so does the bourbon and chocolate notes which keep the mint from becoming overbearing. The beer does a good job in balancing all the flavor elements resulting in a nice palate.
