Bourbon Barrel-Aged Banana Pudding-inspired Strong Ale • 13% ABV • This Heaven Hill barrel-aged Strong Ale pays homage to the timeless delight of banana pudding. We steeped the base liquid on a decadent combination of Tahitian and Madagascar vanilla beans, recirculated it on a bed of fresh coconut flakes for a silky body boost, and blessed its heart with hundreds of pounds of hand-processed bananas. Sweet southern aromatics of molasses, dates, bourbon, and oak melt onto the palate with a subtle, buoyant layer of coconut and a beautiful banana finish.

banana pudding inspired, not a dessert id immediately think to craft a beer around, but a successful project anyway thanks to a good base strong ale, dark and barrel heavy, and the use of quality ingredients, vanilla, coconut, and actual banana, which is ripe and real in here and somehow bold enough to push through all the malt, bourbon, and richness. the darkest reddish brown color, looks almost stout-like in low light, near still from the tap, slick and leggy looking with good viscosity, some bubbles as it drinks but heavy and slow moving. the aroma is fresh baked banana bread, not over the top vanilla, i dont really get it as pudding, but the elements work great together anyway. nice malt depth, nutty and with a cooked sugar thing, brown sugar, bran muffin, baked banana, caramel sauce, light umami with some darker grain character too, subtle on the coconut but adding a lift, really well integrated and compelling, boozy but in a way that enhances the whole thing, slows it down in a good way. the flavor is over the top, sweet like brown sugar, maple, and toffee, with the banana also adding sweetness, the part i wanted to lead and it more or less does. vanilla in support, enough malt coming through to keep it beery, like flavored barleywine. definite brandy and rum notes along with the bourbon to me, mild on the coconut compared to the other elements, firebreather as far as alcohol is concerned so a little is plenty of this, but the flavors are excellent. a light soy thing giving contrast, baked bread, banana cordial, plenty of oak. a monster of a beer but real well done for what it is. these guys continue to more or less warrant the hype that they receive.

500 ml bottle into a snifter. A 2024 release, had 6/7/24.
Pours a ruddy brown, semi opaque, with a short head and a few coconut flecks sticking to the glass. Aromas of vanilla, caramel, bourbon, coconut some banana- at first, fades a bit, light oak and chocolate. Flavors of bourbon, caramel, vanilla, malt, coconut- especially as it warms, some banana, light oak. Smooth, a very good fuller body, well carbonated- maybe a touch on the high side.
The thing about beers with bananas, is I always expect/want a bigger presence. It shows fairly well here, but there’s loads of vanilla and caramel to enjoy. Solid barrels, enough coconut and it’s aromatic and flavorful. Really enjoyable.

This is amazing! BL has done banana so well again, very impressed! Pours dark brown with a light brown cap. Smells like banana pudding with barrel tones of bourbon, molasses, vanillin laden oak, a hint of date and coconut. Taste features molasses forward bourbon barrel blends wonderfully with vanilla, banana, coconut, caramel and a hint of cinnamon. Body is boozy yet so smooth, lush in a refined way, sugars never overpower, amazing balance. Beer of the year candidate, BL at their best. The wife loved it

Caramel drizzled bananas, nutmeg/allspice, vanilla cookies, chocolate and coconut, and a vanilla-bourbon barrel nose on this one! Great nose! Taste follows with some chocolate covered caramel upfront...and then a vanilla-coconut, hint of banana, bourbon barrel finish. The nose is definitely better than the palate here IMO...and I think the flavors would have popped more if it had a thicker, heavier, more viscous mouthfeel. This is good! I just needed more banana to show up in the flavor department to really hit the banana pudding inspiration that they were going for.
