collaboration with mortalis, obviously not the kind of thing these breweries are known for, at least not to me, but cool to get to drink draft beer from them, a rare treat to say the least. this drinks a little lighter than it really is due to awesome proportions and high refinement. not exotic on the hop side, simcoe, el dorado, and citra, nothing new there, but it all comes together very well, and this is summery in a style that i rarely find to be, bitter but not exclusively, and pretty well layered for a beer that also seems rather straight forward. a clearish golden color with a creamy white head from the faucet, looks bubbly and not real viscous or anything. notes of clover honey, zested lemon, and spruce in the nose with some light pale barley malt sweetness running with the hops, relatively bitter but also balanced, some minerality coming through, definite freshness as well, light confectionary sweetness bringing up the citrus aspect. the flavor shows a more intense citrus, grapefruit and its pith, also some lemongrass, pine sap, and west coast dankness before the bitter swallow. not a lot of grain flavor here, but not a lot of body either, so this feels lighter than a lot of these, and the alcohol really isnt a factor until it has warmed up a bit, pretty tight and easy for what it is. at temperature it has a light brassy thing, an orange juice note, and a pleasant summery almost cocktail vibe from the hops. good carbonation here, and overall a drinkable big boy that delivers on my high expectations for the breweries involved. a neat chance encounter in the wild!
