Bourbon Barrel Aged Madagascar Vanilla Imperial Stout finished with Toasted Coconut and Mostra Coffee • 14% ABV • “Key Largo, Montego, baby why don’t we go?”

FOCOCOMO combines FOCOCO and FOMO, two of our legendary Fundamental Observation variants, in a perfect ratio by layering hundreds of pounds of house-toasted coconut with Mostra Coffee's Philippine Heritage Microlot coffee on the FO base for silky, tropical sweetness and dark-roasted waves of nuts, chocolate, and baking spices.

Pitch black body with a dark brown cap. Coffee with some acidity, brown sugar, bourbon, coconut, vanilla, in nose. Coffee, coconut and vanilla lead to the point that they overwhelmed the barrel, some booze gets through with raisin, but the coffee is a lighter roast and definitely more acidic as detected in the nose and it’s not a good match except that it promotes general fruitiness. Heavy and thinner body, coffee dominates here with smooth yet potent roast and earthiness. Just didn't think the coffee type worked here

500 ml bottle into a tulip snifter. A 2024 release, had 1/24/25. Scoring this- particularly the flavor, based on how it was after being out two and a half hours, as it was starting to go bad.

Pours near black and opaque, with a brief sizzling head and a few specks of lacing. Aromas of vanilla, coffee, chocolate, malt, some coconut, light bourbon. Flavors of coffee, vanilla, coconut, malt, some bourbon- a little more as it warms. The flavor is slightly off. A little harsh- especially until the carbonation fades, a very good full body, fizzy, a bit over carbonated.

This has a great aroma, with all the add- ins showing well. But the flavor was definitely a little off, and that’s probably being generous- as my scoring probably is too. The flavor was better after being out forever and some of the carbonation faded, with the add- ins coming through. Lighter barrel than expected. For me, this was right on the edge of fully going bad and I tend to be more patient than others at this stage. Surprised I’m the first with this issue. What a shame, was really looking forward to this.

2024 on tap. Motor oil black color.

Another good one. Wow, FO but a coconut bomb. Vanilla, fudge, oak, char, tobacco, and roasty coffee. Warming bourbon in a good way. Molasses and dark fruits. Very complex. Wow, this is wonderful. Thick and rich.

poured from a 500mL bottle into a TG DBA snifter. pours a shiny black with a menacing dark mocha brown foam cap that quickly fizzes away to reveal some coconut floaties. i am
not in love with the smell on this one… at first i got artificial sun tan lotion coconut aromas but as i go back form more whiffs i think its the floral vanilla mixing with the coconut that i guess i don’t care for. as it warms up i get more chocolate but the coconut goes away and instead its bourbon sting and slightly astringent vanilla. i get no coffee on the nose or in the taste. taste is sweet coconut, smooth chocolate and floral vanilla. it’s quite the contrast to the nose, at least when cold. as it sits and warms up the smell and taste aren’t at such odds with each other. thick mouthfeel. this was decent. hard to say ‘this should have been better’ but it sure seems like i should have liked it more.

Glossy black with a head that vanishes in the blink of an eye leaving a silky taut surface.

Coconut goes full bore right from the word jump, like flan, cream pie and a little toasted flake on the nose.

A surprising potency emerges down the gullet. It's surprisingly clean & dry in the finish because of that, but mocha only mildly surfaces with time--it could have used a bit more coffee. The vanilla bean blooms on the nose as it warms, along with an element of char and caramelly whiskey.

Overall it's a very mature pastry stout without any overindulgence.

Draught from Flying Saucer in Houston.

The look is a very nice, dark brown, like highly tanned leather, with a slight head that does not last long, as you'd expect from this type.

The smell is as expected - coffee, dark malt, some bitter chocolate, and molasses. I did not detect much of the coconut as others indicated.

Taste is very good but for the hype and the price, I was expecting more balance. There was little if any coconut or coffee - it was a very nice stout with a nice amount of bourbon flavor. Not overwhelming. I was expecting more of the variant taste, which did not come through.

Mouthfeel was a little light for this style. Thinner than expected.

Overall, a good barrel-aged stout. There are however, many others available for less money, and/or better tasting (Including Bottle Logic's basic Fundamental Observation).

Poured from a bottle at fridge temp. Pours super thick black with very dark brown head. Looks lovely.

The nose is dominated by vanilla, as expected. The coconut is there, along with rich chocolate, super smooth coffee, slight toffee, dark malts, walnuts, and molasses. Stunning on the nose. I might dock a point for the lack of bourbon here.

The taste is really nice, but perhaps one step down from the nose. The coffee is really nice on this one. The vanilla offsets the bitterness from the coffee. I don't get much coconut on this one. Roasted malts, bourbon, dark fruit (more present than expected), and almost a hint of red wine. Interesting. I will say that the nose was a bit better than the taste, although the taste is great.

Mouthfeel is thick and viscous. The aftertaste is more bourbon and dark fruit, with a hint of vanilla.
