Bourbon Barrel-Aged Madagascar Vanilla + Maple Syrup Imperial Stout • 14% ABV • FO: Maple is a luxurious, cold-weather evolution of our flagship stout—finished with a generous addition of maple syrup for deeper sweetness and aromatic depth. Aromas of warm maple donuts, bourbon, and brownie batter rise from the glass, unfolding into silky layers of vanilla, toasted oak, and dark cacao on the palate. Like sap stirred by shifting seasons, this stout moves at a deliberate pace—quiet, rich, and extraordinary.

I remembering skeptical of the orignal FO years ago but then finding it to be amazing. Fast forward to now with the maple version where I have found the stout world to have developed beyond FO... or has it?!? Pitch black body with a sustained brown head. Smell is laced with vanilla and maple, but joining this powerful duo is fudgey chocolate, toasty bourbon barrel and faint caramel. Taste adds a gentle roast and char, well balanced despite obvious sweetness. Smooth, rich, sticky, and vicious with decent warmth despite the adjuncts, great balance. So yeah, here I am surprised when skeptical on this series

Pour from bottle was dark black with a scant head. No lacing.

Aroma and nose are full of light maple flavor with background notes of vanilla. Despite the name, the maple is only lightly sweet and works well with the chocolate malt flavor. The bourbon barrel is very present and, though it isn't hot, it is felt.

Mouthfeel is heavy but not cloying and very light carbonation.

Poured from a 500mL bottle into a clear plastic cup on the disc golf course. Menacingly black. Very little foam head. Chocolate frosting on the nose. Some bourbon sting to it as well. Taste follows with chocolate up front then vanilla and the brownies and bourbon on the finish. This is interesting. It’s stellar first and foremost but also intriguing that I don’t get any strong maple notes. I don’t really mind it though. It’s not nearly as sweet as I thought it was going to be. It’s not sticky or ‘breakfasty’ at all. For those looking for a maple bomb, this isn’t it. It’s really delicious though. Thick mouthfeel. Loved every sip of this one.
