“Southern Sky” is the marriage of a French Biere de Garde and a Bohemian Pilsner, with certain Oregon sensibilities. An effervescent and nicely bodied Ale with moderate hopping that carries and transforms throughout the mouth with a very dry finish. It's a very drinkable and refreshing beer.

Appearance- Pours up a good amount of very fluffy head which has excellent retention. The head is a pure cotton white while the body is a medium amber that appears as a pale amber when held up to the light. Lacing is sheeting that hangs to the glass.

Nose- Very mild, thought I got a whiff of caramel but right now I don't get anything at all. Perhaps a slight woodiness from pine and resin. Slight citrus, some orange and lemon.

Taste- Also very mild without much of the citrus loveliness that I enjoy from my favorite APAs. Starts off with a light bitterness (wood of pine and resin) and shows a little bit of a grain and cereal on the finish. Mild citrus comes out but is closer to peels than the actual fruit. After a few sips, actual orange and lemon start to come out. Not a whole bunch of presence, even for a pale ale. Still has good balance and integration. Pretty much an above average to good beer. No flaws but nothing that really impresses.

Mouthfeel- Light to medium bodied with slight syrup on the texture, appropriate carbonation. Slightly dry finish with some chalkiness. Has some creaminess to it as well. Probably the best aspect of the beer and a very good sign for a new brewer.

Drinkability- Very sessionable and very accessible. I could drink a lot of this, especially at the very reasonable price of 3.50 a pint (normally 4.50).

Overall- Above average to good, pretty much in between. Would be a good, solid pale ale if it had a little more presence. Very nice mouthfeel almost makes up for it. Definitely worth a try and I will be looking out for beers from this brewer. It's a pretty easy style to brew but the mouthfeel shows lots of promise.
