Can with 4/8/16 date. Slightly hazy, bright golden yellow pour, foam dissipated quickly. Initially a slight funk smell. Faint smell of esters as it warms. Peach and banana, a wheaty bitterness in the finish. Light mouth feel with good carbonation. A good summer beer. I could drink a few and I will.

16 ounce can into weizen glass, canned on 4/8/2016. Pours hazy/cloudy golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of lemon, orange, banana, bubblegum, peppercorn, clove, wheat, cracker, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and light earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon, orange, banana, bubblegum, peppercorn, clove, wheat, cracker, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal bitterness, yeast spice, and tart/tangy wheat on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, orange, banana, bubblegum, peppercorn, clove, wheat, cracker, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and light earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitter/spice/tartness balance; and slight cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is good. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6%. Overall this is a good hefeweizen. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. This felt a bit too sweet and tart/tangy on the wheat character; and was not dry enough. Still quite enjoyable, though.

I picked up a can of Gonzo's Biggdogg's Magic Trick for $2.59 last week at The Lager Mill. I just had this beer at a recent beer fest and I thought it was solid for the style, but not that it's in cans I thought I should revisit it, so lets see how it goes. 2016 Vintage. Poured from a tall 16oz pint can into a Hefeweizen glass.

A- The can looks nice, it's got a nice design and it's a little eye catching. It poured a nice golden orange color that took on more of a golden yellow color when held to the light with two fingers worth of cream white head that died down to a thin ring that eventually faded away and it left some rings of lacing behind. This is a good looking beer, it's just what I expect from the style.

S- The aroma starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with the yeast being the first to show up and it imparts nice mixture of banana and spices with spices seeming to show up a little more and they lead into a doughy aroma with a good amount of sweet malts showing up in the background. Up next comes a grainy, slightly creamy, pale malt and pretty bread aroma. The aroma is nice, but it's a little light for the style.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma and it starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with the yeast still being the first to show up, it imparts the same aspects as it did in the aroma, but this time it's lighter, but the spices still stick out the most. Up next comes that some doughy aspect that I got in the aroma and it goes right into the malts which impart the same aspects, but they show up more this time and they more of a watery grainy flavor. On the finish it's a little more watery with hardly any bitterness with a little bit of sweet malts taking it's aftertaste and it had a sweet malt, light yeast and watery grain aftertaste. This is just a decent tasting Hefe, the grainy malts show up a little too much for the style.

M- A little smooth, a little crisp, on the slightly lighter side of being medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is decent, but I wish it was smoother.

Overall I thought this beer was just ok and I thought it was pretty average example of a Hefe, it had some of the aspects that I look for, but when it came to the taste it all started to fall apart with too much of those water grainy flavors showing up. This beer doesn't have good drinkability, one is more than enough for me. What I like the most about this beer is appearance, it's a good looking hefe. What I like the least about this beer is the taste and drinkability, they just weren't that great. I wouldn't buy this beer again and I can't say i would recommend it. All in all this wasn't as good as I remember, all the beers I had before that one must of clouded my judgement because when it comes down to it it's just another average Hefe. It's my least favorite Gonzo's BIggDogg beer and it's average at best for the style. Better luck next time guys, this one could use some work.
