Lighter in body and sweeter than expected, but an interesting take on the style. Some cough syrup sweetness at first taste, plums, prunes in the aroma. Second taste reveals more (ad possibly to much) sweetness. Dark brown/purple, best handled in small doses. No alcohol warmth however.

I most recently sampled this beer on 8/8/2014.
Aroma: Belgian candi sugar plums, raisin, and dark fruit.
Taste: Belgian candi sugar, which comes off as raisin and plums. Mild alcohol heat in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Very watery. The lightest mouthfeel for the style I've ever experienced.
Overall: Decent, at best.

Mini-growler fill picked up tonight at Brewforia Meridian for a pricey $12.50... and to make matters worse, the guy capped in on foam when it was only about 75% full, so when the foam died back the growler wasn't even CLOSE to full. I was told, "when the foam dies down, it will be almost all the way full." I was too frustrated and polite to call him out.
Anyway... enough bitching. Poured into my HotD goblet... 1" Dark tan head... nice lacing with an okay retention.
Thick black cherry esters... a pretty good hit of clove... nose reminds me a little of Cherry Coke (not necessarily a bad thing)... Pretty strong EtOH comes off as perfumy... Malt backbone is pretty light, could use more toasty or perhaps even caramel malt.
Flavor mirrors the aromas with a more pronounced phenolic presence and the same hefty dark fruity ester component.. needs more maltiness to carry the yeasty notes.
Medium/light body for the style... I think a little added maltiness would help this beer across the board.
Pretty decent attempt for a new brewery, and a tough style to get right.
