Draft at brewpub. Pretty solid porter, but this brewery has a way with the style ( not so with the Belgian). Dark brown with a thin skin of tan head. Chocolaty, roast grain aroma. Taste is also chocolaty, mildly sweet, burnt toast. Good porter.

when we were in here, they had a special menu going for the treefort music fest where a lot of other local breweries were also featuring beers in here, so the beer menu didnt have a lot of detail on it. i am fairly certain it only said porter here, not pugface porter, and it definitely didnt specify it as a rye porter, so i am not totally positive this is the right listing, but it makes sense after drinking it that this is what i had. anyone know if there is or was another porter going on over that weekend? i think i have it right. assuming i do, this one pours a very light color for the style, brown way more than black, very mild looking for what it is, and quite low on the roast, which is fine. i noticed a little earthy uniqueness to it when i had it, which likely was the rye malt in here, not quite peppery or anything, not spicy like it can sometimes be, but more than just roasted barley and chocolate malt, an interesting grain base, and i dont mind it being a little lighter, it has plenty of depth to the flavor. it has a nice dry finish after a little cocoa sweetness in the middle, and a lightly bready yeast character that works well with the grain. simple really, and light enough to be very drinkable as porters go, but to me this almost falls more into the brown ale category than anything else, especially without much roasted character to it, at least as the style goes. overall though, its quite good, and i dont care much about traditional style parameters when the beer tastes good...
