Bomber from Boise Co-op. Medium amber, skin of head. Aroma is nutty, caramel. Taste is more caramel, with the booziness creeping in slowly. Sweet, malty, smooth.

robust and flavorful example of the style, lighter brown in color with a frothy head and a lot of viscosity, mahogany toned in the light. it smells richly malty, but both sort of sweet and umami to me, on the one side its raisin and molasses and sticky bread, on the other side its soy and minerals and port wine, quite dynamic, with an obvious german yeast element running through all of it, unifying. the flavors match the smells, and this comes together pretty well, a little warming alcohol in the mix the whole way, but not distracting. hints of cherry cola, red licorice, anise, and maple all arise, dried fruity to me, autumnal, sturdy. i have not really known these guys to be makers of fine old world style beers, but this one is really pretty good, i like that the yeast can be appreciated through all the grain depth, and that its not as palate coating and heavy as some of these can get. definitely seems like an odd selection for this time of year, but i am not complaining. nice to see these guys trying new things and improving all the time!
