Bomber from Albertsons. Needed a warmer after waiting out in 20 degree weather for a late bus. Clear mahogany pour. Small skin of finely beaded head. My first review of the Quadricorn recalled a heavy hand with the candy sugar. The aroma on this still comes off sweet (molasses), but with plenty of prune aroma as well. Taste adds some of the rum notes to the pit fruit flavors, but seems to temper the sweetness as well. Late warmth rises and provides a nice glow. Mild, pleasant sweet lingering notes. Much better with the rum treatment.

massively strong but delicious barrel aged version of their quad, done for their anniversary this year i believe, pretty impressive strong ale here, and a heck of a beer to get into in the early afternoon, boy! its deep amber in color with a pretty good head for this sort of thing, not overly viscous and fairly active looking. smells a little fusel to me, but rich and malty and still belgian underneath all the booze and sweetness and rum. the esters and chateau type malt together contribute brown sugar, maple, honey, raisin, fig, and brandy notes, very layered and good, but also very cohesive. i somehow taste the cane sugar in the rum here, some old weathered oak, and plenty of vanilla character as well. i almost like the way the sharpness of the alcohol cuts the sweet at the end, its harsher than it needs to be, especially at temperature, but it works. the body isnt all that heavy here, and the flavors are solid, the rum works great with the base quad, and the beer tastes mature and professionally done, well rested, and worthy of their special anniversary occasion. a bold order, but i dont regret it, a very good beer, a bit americanized overall, but no denying this is excellent strong ale! love the progress these guys have made of late in terms of quality, they are back on my list here locally!
