Pours a hazy golden wheat color with nice head and lacing. Smell is fruity herbal and tropical. taste follows the nose with citrus pine mango and melon . A soft mouth feel that is more sweet than dry.

This beer is somewhat of a rollercoaster in terms of quality, a capsule of both solid execution and a lingering feeling of missed expectations. The citra hops really pop out upon first smell, and--while unacompanied by much of a head--the beer pours out into a pleasant translucent orange. However, the initial taste was a bit of a letdown. For a double IPA with wataku, mosaic, and citra hops, the flavor has less staying power than I would have wanted. However, after a few more sips and some time to sit with the beer, I came to find that the hoppy flavor had more staying power in the back of the mouth than I anticipated at first sip. The taste was therefore somewhat underwhelming, but not without redeeming qualities. For a double IPA, this was also incredibly smooth and felt lighter than most double IPAs I've had previously (that might not necessarily be the most commendable attribute). Overall, this is a solid beer that still feels like it was one step away from greatness.
