I love it!
Sure, the Major League Baseball All-Star Game was there last night and this had a nice portrayal of the skyline on the label but you'd have to be a die-hard Angeleno to completely appreciate this beer. It was sunny, laid-back, and in the spirit of the Randy Newman song although this was a bit too dark and dank in the back for me to rate any higher on here!
No doubt that this brew's sunny disposition was in it's appearance, as it was plenty golden, bright, and ever-so-slighty hazy with enough head to top off the liquid. No lacing was left behind as this was quite thin in consistency and whatever suds remained after each sip slid down the side of my pint glass. Lots of gooseberry and deep forest in the nose as the taste contained those, as well as deep citrus, candied sugar, and earthy hops. The brightness up front gave way to quite heavy-handed taste that could have used a bit more carbonation and bright fruit to round things out but as it was, this was a subtly hoppy beer that was a bit cloying and sticky in the aftertaste, without the overt waxiness and resin that characterized more popular offerings of the style.
The amount of alcohol in this was spot-on and this was quite toasted in the aftertaste for something of the sort. It looked like it was canned on 3/22 with "SUNRISE SETTING" written above it, as it was hard to read what was printed on the bottom. Regardless, this was superficial like SoCal but enjoyable enough beneath that to be better than someone trying to make it in the industry. Not a bad collab although it left a bit to be desired...
