Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can sent to me in a trade. Date stamp is "THICC" 1-18-2023. The beer pours a jet black coffee color and no light passes through the glass. A dense creamy tan head of about 2 cm foams up and quickly fades to a sturdy edge layer. Some small islands spin around in the center of the glass but never reform anything significant.
Aroma is charred wood, dark chocolate, rich bourbon and brown liquor note, a little fusol. No hop character here.
First sip reveals a medium body and fine tingly carbonation with only a little bit of coating on my palate. Texture is pretty smooth.
Flavor is bourbon, charred wood, some fusol booze and hints of vanilla. Pretty much what the nose advertised. No hops here either. This is a straight forward barrel aged imperial stout that shows a good dose of barrel character. The booze is bitey and peppery but not really warming on the swallow. Wish there was a little more thickness on body, but even still, this is
AN enjoyable imperial stout
