A- The color is not what you would expect out of a style like this, that being dark red, like cherry skins I suppose, along with pink/purple undertones.....the brew itself is fairly clear, as I can see the semi-aggressive columns of fizz rising to the top in quick fashion! The head is dense, and soapy; is a pinkish white color, and shows decent retention, settling into a thick patchwork of lumpy foam over top the liquid. The lacing is modest at best, with small clumps of protein clinging to the inside of the glass, while the majority gracefully slides back into the brew!
S- Muted fresh cherry flesh and skins are noted, but are not overpowering. Helping to balance this out are tart unripe cherry, wheat and barley grains, grassy dryness, caramel, wheat and crystal malt sweetness, and just a hint of leafy hopped bitterness on the finish.
T- The flavors of this are actually very smooth and cherry sweet, but not in a cloying syrupy manner.....just completely unlike what I expected. The malt is kind of weak, and beyond the fruitiness, there really isn't that much else to talk about here unfortunately. It reminds me more of a light lager with cherry added.....even the finish is just more of the same, without any sort of hop presence....the cherry juice lingers after the swallow....meh.
M- Light bodied and as opposed to the look, the carbonation is rather smooth and shallow here....I would have liked to had a matching aggressiveness on the palate. The flavors are generally soft, and while it may do as a single to enjoy on a hot summer day, the drinkability is lacking....not something I would dare ask for a second go around....as it stands I am just finishing this one off with intent to have a tasty golden ale or something that brings a quenching command....this one belongs in the park....in the shadows
