Got this one from the Duvel guy in Utrecht
From a bottle into a snifter
Best Before 20 Jan 2020
Drunk side-by-side with Impi.
APPEARANCE: Clear dark brown pour yields a two finger, medium looking, slightly creamy tan head with good retention. Bistre brown body with medium levels of carbonation. Head slowly fades to a full, creamy cap. Fain, splotchy wisp remains leacing touches of lacing on the glass. Color is definitely too light for the style, unfortunately.
SMELL: Roasted malts, dark fruits, licorice, leather, and some spicy booze on the nose. Bold enough.
TASTE: Dark malts, dark fruits, licorice and leather up front. Flavorful. Some alcohol at the swallow, then a bold and lingering finish of licorice, leather, burnt notes, dark, fruity sweetness and some alcohol. Lots of flavor here.
PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down fine and finishes a bit mouth-coating. Some alcohol lingers.
OVERALL: This is good. It’s definitely related to its Baltic Porter brother, as the dark fruit, leather and licorice character are shared across the board. The flavor profile is not really my bag of tricks in this style, but it’s European in its stoutness, and is more to style than the overly hopped American stout they did. I’d chose this one first but would probably reach for their Baltic porter before either of them, as it’s more to the porter style. Good brew but not something I’d need to revisit.

0.33l bottle. Poured into pint.
Pours opaque darkest brown with 1-finger tan head, which saves its form for some time.
Smell - licorice, roasted mats, chocolate, vinous.
Taste - follows the smell, chocolate, coffee, creamy.
Full-body, soft carbonation.
