Reviewed from notes taken in Summer 2014.
Rauch porter. 5.40% ABV. 4 euro for 33cl at a bar in Tallinn.
No bubble show forms as it's poured.
HEAD: None. Just a khaki-white ring of foam. No lacing.
BODY: Opaque dark brown-black in colour. No yeast/lees are visible within.
Appears adequately carbonated. Not a unique or special appearance considering the beer's style.
AROMA: Toasty bread crust. Brown malts. Faint hazelnut. Marshmallow. Vanilla. It's a good aroma for a porter, and diverges from the usual dark malt build. I'm looking forward to trying it.
I detect no overt off-notes, overt yeasty notes, overt booze, or hops. Aroma is attractive yet mild in terms of intensity.
TASTE: Vanilla, toasted oak, brown malts, marshmallow, supple creamy flavours. Very nice and well-balanced, though atypically built for the style.
Cohesive. Boasts above average depth of flavour. Flavour intensity is below average. Average flavour duration.
Not a gestalt harmonious whole of a beer, but I do like it for what it is.
TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, soft, creamy, approachable. Good overall presence on the palate. A bit chewy. Well-carbonated.
Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, or scratchy.
OVERALL: Quite drinkable fare overall. I'd definitely get it again, but I don't get any smokiness in spite of it being billed as a smoked porter. The toasted malt flavour is lovely. A good Estonian beer well worth trying if you come across it.

Fills the glass with a black body. Not really getting any light through which is impressive for a porter. A tan head develops and a thin layer keeps on top for a while.
Slight meaty smoke, roasted coffee, sweet chocolate.
Smoky and roasty with some sweetness underlying.
Smooth drinking with mild carbonation. Body is on the lighter side of medium.
Very nicely done. The smoke isn't very powerful so I would recommend this to most people who like porters.
