50cl bottle, specially made in traditional style for the Estonian Open Air Museum, retro label from 30s which caught my attention, bb in 12m.
Jet black colour, beige quickly exiting head.
Nose is prominently dark chocolate and tart berries, with a whiff of syrup. Quite traditional, except a tad too much of the tart berries/syrup/slightly metallic aroma. Well, I could have called it a bit too much molasses just as well. Always happens if nothing hides an excess of dark sugar.
Taste turns the chocolate into milk chocolate and licorice, and the syrup becomes caramelly. Berries fade out thankfully. Mouthfeel is medium. No particular evolution in the aftertaste.
A pleasant enough baltic porter, from the sweet and simple corner of the style, which is probably the dominant interpretation in the Baltic area, traditionally speaking. As this was clearly made in "traditional" context, rating relative to that.

Got this one at the Duvel guy in Utrecht.
From a bottle into a snifter
Best before 3 February 2018
APPEARANCE: Clear dark brown pour yields a 1+ finger, medium looking, slightly foamy, light brown head with good retention. Clear bistre brown body with no carbonation evident. Head fades to a full wisp. Slight wisp remains leaving traces of lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Dark malts, dark fruit notes, leather, some spicy hops and hints of tobacco. Bold enough.
TASTE: Flavorful up front with dark fruits, dark malts, leather and caramel notes. Some burnt flavors and a touch of alcohol at the swallow with a bold and lingering finish of leather, tobacco, some smoky notes, sweet dark fruits and some bitter coffee. Burnt qualities as well.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy enough on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes slightly mouth-coating. Some bitterness lingers.
OVERALL: This is quite good. The aroma and flavor profile are great and the feel supports the show nicely. Bold, flavorful and well balanced for sure. This was the best of the three Ollenaut stout/porter brews I tried that day. Recommended!
