Uneven but lovely brew; a total peat bomb, which I very much enjoy. Smells oxidized and underwhelming, though. The flavor is where it all shines through, with smoke, umami, ground coffee, chocolate and vanilla.

The body is too thin and watery, sadly, but overall this is super drinkable and tasty, provided you like scotch and smoke.

Black pour, little head that dissipates quickly. Dark cherry smell, almonds, peat. Leather and tobacco taste, dark cherries, bitter and a bit sour, probably from the barrel. Soft mouthfeel, medium to full body. Aftertaste is slightly spicy from the alcohol.

Got these from De Bierkoning in Amsterdam.

Drank this one after the JD and Longmorn versions.

APPEARANCE: A clear brown pour yields a 1+ finger, medium looking, light tan head with great retention. Bistre brown in color, clear, with medium levels of carbonation. More than the other versions. Head fades to a half wisp and ring. A ring remains leaving a few dots of lacing down the glass. Good head, but a very light and thin body for the style. Averages out.

SMELL: Very peaty with lots of earthy notes and leather on the nose. Light caramel there too, but mostly a peat bomb here. A bit one dimensional.

TASTE: Leather, oak and lots of peat up front and through the whole ride. A bold and lingering finish is quite peaty with oak, leather, some sweet caramel and some bitter chocolate. Lots of peat here, but shows enough restraint and doesn't turn into a chore of a peat bomb. More complex than the nose had lead on as well.

PALATE: Medium body and slightly higher levels of carbonation. More than the other variants. Creamy smooth on the palate, goes down fine and finishes slightly mouth coating. A bit lighter and more carbonated than the other variants.

OVERALL: Nice stuff all around. Lots of peat, but nothing overly dominating like I've experienced in the past. A bit too carbonated and light on the palate compared to the other two, but still a solid effort and better than a lot of the other attempts in the region. More appealing than the JD variant but not as entertaining as the Longmorn version.
