Got these from De Bierkoning in Amsterdam.
From a bottle into a small snifter
EBC: 280
EBU: 80
Aged in Longmorn barrels
Drank this one after the JD and before the Ledaig versions.
APPEARANCE: Looks similar to the JD edition. A clear brown pour yields a 1+ finger, medium looking, light tan head with great retention. Bistre brown in color, clear, with no carbonation evident. Head fades to a half wisp and ring. A ring remains leaving a few dots of lacing down the glass. Good head, but a very light and thin body for the style. Averages out.
SMELL: Oak, caramel, toffee, with some light notes of coconut and milk chocolate. Very little stout beer underneath, but the barrel is bolder and more complex than the JD version, with less piercing alcohol. Pretty nice really.
TASTE: Pretty nice again. Follows suit. Oak, toffee, caramel and butterscotch sweetness up front and into the swallow. A bolder finish of oak, sweet toffee and coconut flavors, milk chocolate and some bitter pure chocolate lingers nicely on the palate. Some alcohol and plenty of heat after the swallow, but nothing off putting. Again, very little stout here, but the barrel is quite tasty.
PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy and smooth on the palate, goes down smooth with enough weight and finishes a bit mouth-coating. A hint of heat lingers as well. Like the JD version, the feel here is solid. A touch more heat on this variant though, but definitely not off putting.
OVERALL: One of the better BA imperial stouts in Holland. I will admit that the base beer is generally weak in flavor, as it is really nowhere to be found in any of these variants, but the Longmorn barrel is deliciously complex enough to make this a very nice drink. Glad to see another solid BA stout hit the market here. Very good, and much better than other craft attempts in the area here. Recommended.
