Copenhagen 4/12 2024. 33 cl bottle from Meny, Vermlandsgade, Kbh. S. Drawing of a horrified white bird in front of a Christmas tree in flames.
Pours opaque dark brown with a small light beige head. A bit bubbly. Settles as 0,1 cm thick layer foam just covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is intense with a sweet odor of roasted, dark malts mingling with a scent of dark bitter coffee og dark chocolate. Sourish notes. Caramel and toffee. Dark sweet alcohol. Orange and vanilla. Black coffee.
Light carbonation. Medium thick, oily, slightly viscous, soft, creamy, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a strong bitterness. Aftertaste is bitterwith a distinct boozy touch. Lingers for a while. Finish is rather dry.
The Christmas Tree is indeed on fire.

Draft beer at Proeflokaal Arendsnest in Amsterdam. Awesome. Described as orange and coffee oatmeal stout. Creamy, smooth, rich, caramel coffee flavor. No bitter after taste. Good to the last drop.

Got this one from the interwebs a few weeks back. Doops also shared a bottle with me. Cheers!

Imperial stout with orange peel, lots of oats and coffee beans.
APPEARANCE: Clear brown pour yields a three finger, medium looking, creamy, light tan head with very good retention. Clear bistre brown body with minimal carbonation evident. Fades to a thick foamy cap and leaves some chunky lacing on the glass. Half wisp remains and leaves some solid foamy lacing down the glass. Okay head, but a very light looking body for the style.
SMELL: Lots of raw coffee beans on the nose. Plenty of raw coffee, sweet cream aromas, chocolate and some notes of oatmeal as well. Alright.
TASTE: Slightly roasted up front with raw coffee notes and some oatmeal as well. A touch of that orange peel perhaps too, though I might be reaching there. A bolder finish with plenty of raw coffee beans, sweet cream, cocoa powder, oatmeal and lightly roasted flavors. Pretty nice, though could use a bigger roasted grain base perhaps.
PALATE: Medium body and slightly higher carbonation. A little lighter on the palate than hoped but still creamy enough, goes down fine and finishes a touch dry for the style. No real heat lingers.
OVERALL: Not a bad coffee stout. Though the stout base was perhaps a little underwhelming, the coffee and sweet cream flavors worked nicely. I’d like to see a darker stout overall as well, and perhaps some extra roasted and black malt would help give this one the boost it needs. In any case, this is something well worth checking out if you get the chance. Looking forward to more stuff from Mr. Owl. Cheers!
