Served in a chalice from the bottle.
Appearance: Cloudy mahogany, with light sediments. Head is subtle maybe half a finger's length.
Smell: sweet fruit, light whiskey/bourbon notes. Still in the nostrils after placing the glass down.
Taste: deep whiskey notes, with light malts and deep wood notes. Honestly it's a touch sweet, like a candy and sweet melted sugars.
Mouth: Medium carbonation, but super sticky.
Overall: great brew, will definitely bring a bottle or two back with me to the states. Has a feel of a few other English barleywines I've had. Salud!

Got this at the Duvel guy down the road from the old place.
From a bottle into a snifter
B-wine aged in Scottish Speyside Auchroisk whisky casks
EBU: 65
EBC: 60
Bottled 27 March 2015
Tried this one after the Auckroisk version.
APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, slightly looser, foamy, light tan head with good retention. Clear maroon brown or burnt umber with no real carbonation evident. Head fades to a half wisp and ring. A ring and slight wisp remain until the end but leave only some falling dots down the glass.
SMELL: Lots of alcohol and whisky here. Some pine needles and perfume alcohol qualities, with toffee and earthy notes as well.
TASTE: Boozy with alcohol and whisky up front. Earthy notes at the swallow with a bold finish of oak, whisky, perfume and booze, with some decent hop bitterness and earthy peat flavors. Still quite alcoholic and rough though.
PALATE: Medium body and slightly higher levels of carbonation. Slightly foamy and light on the palate, goes down fine with a good burn at the swallow and finishes slightly mouth-coating. Some heat lingers. A touch creamier that the other variant, but still not really up to par.
OVERALL: Along with the Auckroisk version, this one is pretty boozy, perfume-like, with a light and harsh feel. Not much complexity here either, as the alcohol seems to run the show. It seems like they bottled and released this too early, perhaps, and a good year in the bottle might help it out. In any case, neither of these are worth writing home about. Pass.

Dark ruby pour, almost opaque, with a nice but small creamy tan head with decent retention. Smells of whiskey barrel, dark cherries, some vanilla and cocoa. The taste is OK, but not as good as the Auchroisk version. Sweet caramel and maple syrup, some bourbon and oak, vanilla, cocoa, coffee and dark chocolate and cherries. Smooth texture, full bodied and with a sweet and hot afterteste.
