Beautiful color, clear but dark ruby brown with a very thin tan head. The smell is dominated by prunes, strawberry jam, red grapes, pears, dried fruit like figs, raisins, caramel and whiskey. The taste is more bitter than expected, probably from the hops used, that give it a fresh sensation. Whiskey - scotch, to be precise, although very lightly peated - as well as dried fruit and some caramel complete the taste notes. Sticky mouthfeel, but with a medium body and a very warm and bitter aftertaste.
There is also something in this beer's aroma and taste profile that makes me feel of a fruit lambic - not sure if it's the addition of pears, or the yeast that's been used, but it's damn good.

Note for anyone reading this, drink at close to room temperature.
A: Black, and the off-white head dissipates to a small rim which stays for the duration. Looks fizzy.
S: Has that sour lambic smell, on top of rummy barleywine.
T: Yeah, a bit lambic like. You can taste the whisky, but rum and coke would be a truer analogy. Medium dry. Not sure if it's the hops or the peat but there's quite a nasty bitter aftertaste. A lot more affable as it warms though. Hoppy earthiness comes out in the finish. It's very well balanced, apart from the alcoholic bitterness in the aftertaste. It's smooth, but not perfect.
O: An interesting bit of beer curio. Like an impy stout crossed with a lambic, about 80/20. Still can't decide if I enjoyed it a lot or just a little bit. Glad I didn't have to pay for it though.
