Got this one at De Bierkoning in Amsterdam
Best Before 29/01/2018

APPEARANCE: Murky dark brown, almost black, yielding a small, medium looking tan head with decent retention. Pours out syrupy and thick. Black body with no carbonation evident. Head fades to a faint wisp and ring. Ring and touches of wisp remain but leave no real lacing down the glass. Leaves a sticky film, however…

SMELL: Lots of cognac, oak, wood, alcohol, some hints of vanilla and cream in there too. A solid layer of caramel and toffee show up too. Pretty bold and very wood and spirit forward.

TASTE: Piles of cognac and spirit up front. Alcohol, booze, wood, as well as some definite flavors of butterscotch, caramel, dark fruity character in there. Lots of cognac, wood and butterscotch at the swallow, leading into a bold and very flavorful finish of wood, cognac, caramel, toffee, butterscotch, hints of vanilla, and lots of booze. Really flavorful and quite enjoyable.

PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. A touch prickly on the palate, though not nearly as rough as expected, goes down fine and finishes very sticky. Some heat lingers.

OVERALL: This is actually quite good. It’s big, boozy and brutal, but it’s got a lot of character and the alcohol never gets in the way of all the lovely spirit, wood, and crazy sweetness that’s going on here. This is definitely something worth checking out if you are able to find one. Granted, at 8 euro a bottle, I certainly hesitated, as expensive Uiltje beers usually end up disappointing, but this one was actually worth the price of admission. If I see it again, I might even splurge. Solid effort, gents. Cheers!

On tap at Fermentoren, pre-CBC. Pitch black with no head. Super sweet, with notes of sherry, cherries, chocolate. Full bodied, syrupy sweet aftertaste.

On tap. Dark color with red hues and no head. Aroma has sweet cherries and some kind of sweet liquor. Taste follows, sweet and fruity with lots of cherries and other dark fruits. It's sweet, sticky and syrupy, also slightly boozy. Quite good beer overall, leaning more towards a barleywine than an imperial stout.
