Got this one from the Duvel guy in Utrecht
From a bottle into a snifter
Best Before 12 July 2022
APPEARANCE: A clear brown pour yields a three finger, looser, foamy looking light brown head with decent retention. Clear dark brown body with higher levels of carbonation. Head slowly fades to a full, foamy cap and leaves some foamy lacing on the glass. Half wisp remains leaving lots of lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Very woody, with some leather notes, light cacao, vanilla and alcohol on the nose. Plenty of raw oak, with some faint tartness in there as well.
TASTE: Woody again, with cacao powder, vanilla and alcohol up front. Some booze and leather at the swallow with a bolder and lingering finish with lots of cacao, wood, sweet vanilla cream, bitter coffee flavors and some booze.
PALATE: Medium body and slightly higher levels of carbonation. Very creamy on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes a bit mouth-coating. A touch of heat lingers.
OVERALL: The look on this one is a little lack-luster and the feel is a bit too carbonated, but other than that, this is pretty enjoyable. While it is definitely spirit barrel aged, the bourbon character is pretty lacking and it could basically be any indistinct spirit barrel here. That said, the vanilla, wood and coffee flavors the barrel has added work quite nicely even if it is somewhat boozy. Anyways, definitely like this one more than the base beer. Something worth checking out if you get the chance.
