Ever wanted to make like Alice and enter a wonderland of your own? Well, to that we say ‘drink me’. This doppelbock is your golden ticket to a prelapsarian forest full of apples. Well… we did already pick those apples and baked it into a creamy Austrian pastry with vanilla, raisins and cinnamon. We used the best german malts and hops to get down this rabbit hole. Drink this portion and you’ll soon be consulting caterpillars, organizing mad tea parties and playing croquet with the queen. Yes, wonderland is yours for the taking. Just don’t lose your head down there.

Dark reddish. A bit of creambrown foam. Pours thick. Smells sweet and malty. Tastes deep bittersweet caramel. The last time I had Apfelstrüdel was a very long time ago, so I cant make a comparison to that. That being said there is a tiny bit of Apple noticeable, especially in the aftertaste. The sweetness does remind me strongly of powdered sugar, so theres that. Mouthfeel is thick, but very smooth. Outstanding beer. Would love to try this one along with Apfelstrüdel in the future.

330ml bottle poured into tulip.
Pours a dark murky brown with half a finger of caramel coloured head that leaves a bit of blotchy lace as it recedes.
Smells of toasted apples, oatmeal raisin cookies, singed caramel malt, faint licorice, dark toffee, dusted cinnamon and some faint leafy hops.
Tastes of cold apple pie, sugary raisins, caramel squares, sticky dark toffee, more ephemeral licorice and more soft hops.
Feels thick and heavy. Full bodied with mild carbonation. Finishes chewy.
Verdict: Highly recommended. This would indeed go pretty well with some apple pie.

Pours a deep, dark mahogany coloration with a ruby tint and a small, frothy head. Smells of bready, slightly toasted and caramelly malt, dark fruits and apple, vanilla and cinnamon accents. Taste is an excellent balance of bready, toasted, caramel malt, dark fruit, with notes of raisin and plum, light herbal, earthy hops, red apples and spicy accents of vanilla and cinnamon. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some bready malt, apples and spice lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and medium carbonation.
While this is far from traditional, it is still an excellent Doppelbock in its own way, managing a fantastic ratio between malts, hops and additives. While the additives may appear to be just a tad too much in the foreground at first here, they really are balanced very nicely against the malts and hops, making for a rich and complex flavor profile that impresses with a great balance of sweet, bitter, fruity and spicy notes, without feeling too artificial or even the merest hint of booziness for the ABV.

330ml bottle - made with the ingredients that constitute what is essentially the German version of American apple pie.
This beer pours a hazy, dark orange-brick highlighted brown colour, with one finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly tan head, which leaves a bit of pitted limestone wall lace around the glass as it quickly dissipates.
It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, apple juice, cinnamon spice, vanilla extract, and very, very tame earthy, musty, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, baked apples, faint cinnamon, those little vanilla cookies, besotted raisins, and more well-understated leafy, musty, and dead floral hoppiness.
The carbonation is average in its palate-coating frothiness, the body a solid medium weight, and mostly smooth, with nothing getting in the way of a swell time at this particular juncture. It finishes off-dry, the malt and apple essences exhibiting some lingering moxie.
Overall - I'm glad that they laid on the guest ingredients with a delicate touch, insofar as the underlying Doppelbock still comes through, loud and proud. Full of flavour, and with the 22-proof booze quotient barely registering, what we have here is a pleasant sipper for watching daylight gasp its last, at least for this rotation.

This is the first time I have a doppelbock with spices and other ingredients added to the bill, I'm not even sure it can qualify as such. Anyway this is a very enjoyable pastry beer. Loads of cinammon and caramelized apple in this sweet amber beer. Vanilla shows itself too. Overall a nice balance. Good stuff!

For a long time I did not get a beer that I did not know that I was surprised so much, and so favorably! I really liked it. Spectacular, a beer that grows, just need not be very cold. A great beer !!

This is a great effort to recreate the sublime taste of Austrian Apfelstrudel a pastry focusing on apples and cinnamon as a main flavor cobined with some puff pastry and vanilla. It is a mistery how they managed to get the apple flavor in there by using appels, while ciders do not have this taste anymore. Also they are not overdoing it by making it a spice bomb but balancing everything with the deep malty (but not roasty) flavor and elevated alcohol.
