Every cinematic society has one, that awkward, vengeful antihero whose legitimacy is never questioned thanks to his underground army of musclemen misfits wielding bump stocks and machetes. That's right, you know him, equal parts master manipulator and momma's boy, audacious risktaker and textbook asshole. That's our El Patron, a ruthless Northwest Double IPA that takes no prisoners and makes no apologies. The perfect excess, El Patron is supposed to be enjoyed fresh. This beer, just like El Patron, has a short life expectancy. That's also the downside to being El Patron... You can never be El Patron for long.

Pours a cloudy, golden amber coloration with a small, fluffy head. Smells of biscuity malt and quite zesty citrus hops, with lighter tropical accents and notes of pink grapefruit and pineapple. Taste follows the nose, with a great balance of biscuity malt and rather sharp and zesty, bitter citrus hops, with notes of pink grapefruit and lime peel, as well as lighter tropical accents of pineapple and mango. Finishes with a medium/strong bitterness and some zesty citrus notes lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This is a great IPA that is really characterized by its bitter, sharp and zesty citrus character, while also offering some rather nice tropical accents for balance. While I was hoping for the more resinous, piney notes of a true West Coast IPA, this "North West IPA" is still rather enjoyable and certainly lives up to the bitterness of a true WCIPA.

Got this one from Duvel guy in Utrecht
From a 440ml can into a snifter
Canned 25 Feb 2019
NWDIPA
APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, medium looking, creamy white head with good retention. Head slowly recedes to a faint wisp and clings to the sides of the glass. Hazy amber orange with no carbonation evident. Faint, splotchy wisp remains leaving lots of good lacing down the glass. Nice looking.
SMELL: Caramel malts, honeydew melon, some cantaloupe, and some nice tropical fruits on the nose. Pineapple, mango and notes of passionfruit in there as well. Enticing.
TASTE: Caramel malts, honeydew melon and tropical fruity sweetness up front. Flavors of mango, peach, pineapple and hints of passionfruit through the middle into the finish. A bold and persistent aftertaste of caramel, honey, tropical fruits, mango and passionfruit, as well as some decent hop bitterness lingers on the palate. Flavorful.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy enough on the palate, goes down fine and finishes somewhat mouth-coating for the style. Some bitterness and a touch of alcohol lingers. Solid.
OVERALL: This is really good. I remember having it fresh at the brewery itself and although this was canned back in February, it’s still top notch stuff. The tropical fruit character is quite nice and the nose still does the trick. These canned releases are pretty solid and this is another good example of how far Dutch brewing has come in the IPA field. Good stuff.
